How Ultreia Built Mexico's Curated Outdoor Marketplace with Shipturtle

Ultreia is a curated Mexican outdoor marketplace bringing together Mexican and international brands across hiking, camping, surf, running, climbing, and more, tested on the trail, not in a showroom. Founded by CEO Patricio Pérez and CMO Javier Pérez, Ultreia went live on Shipturtle on August 10, offering both outdoor products and services alongside a community space where outdoor enthusiasts share experiences, tips, and destinations. Since launch, the platform has grown to 28 curated brands and roughly 400 live products, with new brands onboarding in as little as 48 hours.

Ultreia set out to solve a gap familiar to outdoor enthusiasts in Mexico: gear and apparel from the country's best outdoor brands, alongside respected international names, scattered across dozens of individual stores with no single place to discover them all. Founders Patricio Pérez and Javier Pérez built Ultreia around a simple idea: an outdoor marketplace that covers the full range of what an adventure actually requires, clothing, equipment, food, travel, and more, organized by activity rather than by brand.

That meant being selective rather than open. Ultreia's own storefront puts it plainly: "No aceptamos a todo el mundo," we don't accept just anyone. Every brand on the platform is chosen for making honest outdoor gear built to hold up on the trail, not just in a product photo. That curation-first stance shaped the central challenge Patricio and Javier faced in building the marketplace itself

Bringing that vision to life meant building a genuine multi-vendor marketplace on Shopify, one that could onboard curated brands quickly, organize a catalog spanning apparel, footwear, gear, and supplements by activity, climate, and gender, and keep the whole experience feeling like a single coherent outdoor destination rather than a directory of separate shops.

Shipturtle solidly solves something critical for us: connecting the catalog, inventory, and orders of multiple supplier brands inside a single store, keeping everything in sync with no friction for customers or for the brands uploading their products.

What Were Ultreia's Biggest Challenges Building a Curated Outdoor Marketplace?

Ultreia's challenges centered on making curation and speed work together: staying selective about which brands and products belong on the platform, without slowing down onboarding or making the shopping experience harder to navigate.

Running a Curated, Multi-Brand Catalog

The challenge: With vendors selling apparel, footwear, gear, and supplements, each with different attributes like climate, gender, and activity, the hardest part was not managing the technical catalog, it was knowing what customers were actually looking for and choosing the right products to bring onto the platform in the first place.

The solution: Shipturtle's multi-vendor catalog structure gave Ultreia a platform built to handle genuinely different product types and attributes within one unified storefront, so the curation decision stayed a merchandising judgment call for Patricio and Javier, rather than becoming a technical constraint on what kinds of products the platform could even support.

Vendor Onboarding Speed

The challenge: Before Shipturtle, there was no fast, structured way to bring a new brand from application to live storefront. A brand wanting to join needed a clear process that could move quickly without skipping Ultreia's approval standards.

The solution: Brands now apply through a form on the Ultreia website or by messaging the team directly, followed by a short interview. Once approved, Shipturtle grants the brand vendor access to upload its own products directly. This structure is what makes Ultreia's advertised 48-hour onboarding realistic in practice, even though more complex applications can occasionally take longer.

Activity and Attribute-Based Discovery

The challenge: Ultreia's storefront lets shoppers filter by activity, gender, climate, category, and brand simultaneously, across every vendor's catalog at once. Building that kind of structured, cross-vendor discovery, rather than a simple category list, was a genuine challenge, and one Ultreia continues actively refining.

The solution: Shipturtle's platform supports the structured, multi-attribute filtering Ultreia's catalog depends on, giving the team a foundation to keep improving how quickly and easily customers find exactly what they're looking for, whether that's a hiking shirt for hot climates or camping gear for a specific trip.

Beyond the Core Marketplace

Ultreia's ambitions extend past product listings. The platform includes a destinations map with 184 mapped locations to help shoppers plan trips and see recommended gear for each one, featured travel-operator partnerships such as Tanah Way for guided outdoor trips, and a growing community section built around ambassadors and shared outdoor experiences. These pieces sit alongside the Shipturtle-powered marketplace as part of Ultreia's broader vision of being more than a store.

"The real difficulty is understanding what people are actually looking for, and choosing the right products, the ones people will actually buy."

It’s not ticket support that takes days to answer. When we’ve needed to solve something urgent, we’ve called directly and they’ve picked up, regardless of the distance or time difference between Mexico and their team.

What Has Ultreia Achieved With Shipturtle?

Since launching on Shipturtle, Ultreia has been able to grow its curated brand roster while keeping the operational load on its small founding team manageable.

Vendors Manage Their Own Products, Start to Finish

Brands on Ultreia upload their own products directly, without Patricio or Javier having to do it on their behalf, and can edit their own listings going forward without the founding team needing to step in for routine updates.

Customer Data Stays With the Marketplace

Ultreia's platform setup keeps customer data with the marketplace rather than exposing it to individual vendors, an important trust and privacy consideration for a marketplace built around a curated community of brands and shoppers.

A Foundation Built to Scale Curation, Not Just Catalog Size

With vendor self-service handling the operational load, Ultreia's team can spend its time on what matters most to the brand: choosing the right brands and products, rather than managing uploads and edits manually.

TULOKSET

Ultreia is still early in its journey. In the founders' own words, the team is validating the idea, refining the website, and building community while adding brands and ambassadors at the same time. The mission is to make Ultreia the first place people think of when they need anything outdoor-related, whether that's a product or a service.

With 28 curated brands, roughly 400 products, and 184 destinations already live, and a vendor onboarding process built to bring new brands on within 48 hours, Ultreia has the operational foundation in place to keep growing its brand roster, activities, and community without the platform itself becoming the bottleneck.
