Shipping Profiles Add-On: A Comprehensive Guide
Overview
The Shipping Profiles add-on enhances your multivendor marketplace by allowing you to define specific shipping rules tailored to individual vendors, products, or delivery regions. This feature ensures that shipping costs are accurately calculated and displayed during checkout, improving both vendor management and customer satisfaction.
Key Features
- Vendor-Specific Shipping Rules: Assign unique shipping profiles to each vendor, enabling them to manage their own shipping settings.
- Custom Shipping Zones: Define shipping zones based on geographical regions, ensuring accurate shipping rates for each area.
- Flexible Shipping Rates: Set flat rates, calculated rates based on weight, order value.
Setting Up Shipping Profiles
1. Accessing Shipping Profiles
To configure shipping profiles:
- Navigate to your Dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Multivendor Settings > Shipping Profiles.
- Click Add Shipping Profile.
2. Creating a Shipping Profile
In the Add Shipping Profile section:
- Profile Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Vendor A Shipping" or "Heavy Products").
- Assign Vendor: Select the vendor you want to create the shipping profile for.
- Assign Products: Select the product/variants that will use this profile. Note that each product can belong to only one shipping profile.
3. Adding Shipping Zones
Within the profile:
- Enter the Zone Name.
- Select the Zone Regions.
- Click the Add Zone button to save the configuration.
Note: You do not need to create separate shipping profiles for a single product. Instead, you can add multiple zones within the same profile.
Example: If your product is Mango and you want to ship it to both the US and the UK, you can define both zones under the same shipping profile rather than creating two separate rules.
4. Setting Shipping Rates
For each shipping zone:
- Click Add Rate.
- Choose the rate type:
- Flat Rate: Charge a fixed amount (e.g., $10 per order).
- Calculated Rates: Set up real-time carrier rates.
- Save your rate.
- Save your profile.
Managing and Editing Profiles
To modify existing shipping profiles:
- Navigate to Settings > Multivendor Settings > Shipping Profiles.
- Select the profile you wish to edit.
- Update products, shipping zones, or rates as needed.
- Save your changes.
Best Practices
- Default Profile: Maintain a default shipping profile for general use and create specialized profiles for unique products or vendors.
- Regular Reviews: Periodically review and update shipping profiles to align with changing shipping rates or vendor requirements.
- Vendor Collaboration: Encourage vendors to review and update their shipping profiles to ensure accurate shipping information.
- Monitor Performance: Track shipping performance and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement.
Note:
Shopify offers two types of shipping profiles — General Shipping Profiles and Custom Shipping Profiles.
When a product is assigned to a Custom Shipping Profile in Shopify, ShipTurtle’s shipping rates cannot override Shopify’s rates at checkout. In such cases, only Shopify’s configured shipping rates will apply.
To ensure that ShipTurtle’s rates are displayed correctly during checkout, you can follow either of the below approaches:
- Recommended Option:
Delete all Custom Shipping Profiles in Shopify and manage all shipping configurations directly through ShipTurtle’s Shipping Profiles. This ensures full control and accurate rate calculation through ShipTurtle. - Alternative Option:
Create and use General Shipping Profiles in Shopify instead of custom ones. Add all relevant products under the General profile. When a product is assigned to a General Shipping Profile, ShipTurtle’s shipping rates can successfully override Shopify’s default rates.
By following either of these methods, you can ensure consistent and accurate shipping rate calculations powered by ShipTurtle during customer checkout.
