What were Joanne’s biggest challenges
When Joanne began building HousePawty, the goal was clear: create a platform where pet owners could easily book trusted caregivers for services like dog walking, pet sitting, and house sitting. However, building a service-based marketplace brings a unique set of operational challenges, especially when scheduling and availability are central to the experience.
As the platform was being designed, Joanne had a very specific vision for how the booking workflow should function. This led to several rounds of discussions and refinements around how vendors would manage their services, how bookings would be scheduled, and how the platform would coordinate these interactions smoothly.
Service Booking Workflows
The challenge:
HousePawty operates as a booking-based marketplace, where customers reserve services provided by independent caregivers. Ensuring that these bookings followed the right workflow while avoiding conflicts required a structured system that could manage scheduling efficiently.
The solution:
Shipturtle helped implement a booking-based service model that allows vendors to list their services while enabling customers to book them directly through the platform. This structure ensures that each booking follows a clear process, reducing confusion and making the experience straightforward for both customers and service providers.
Vendor Availability Management
The challenge:
Service providers need to manage their schedules carefully to avoid overlapping bookings. Without proper availability tracking, there is a risk of double bookings or scheduling conflicts.
The solution:
Shipturtle’s marketplace system enabled vendors to manage their service availability directly through the platform. This allowed caregivers to control when they were available for bookings while giving customers real-time visibility into service availability.
Google Calendar Integration
The challenge:
One of Joanne’s most important requirements was integrating vendor schedules with Google Calendar. Many service providers already manage their time through their personal calendars, so Joanne wanted every booking made on the platform to automatically appear in the vendor’s Google Calendar.
The solution:
Shipturtle worked closely with Joanne to configure the booking system to support Google Calendar synchronization. Now, whenever a customer books a service through HousePawty, the booking automatically appears in the provider’s Google Calendar. This prevents scheduling conflicts and ensures service providers always have an accurate view of their upcoming bookings.
