How to Manage Products and Commissions for POS (Point of Sale)

What is Shopify POS?

Shopify POS connects your physical retail locations with your online store. Whether you are selling at a brick-and-mortar shop or a pop-up, it syncs your inventory, orders, and customer data in real-time, keeping all your business operations centralized right in your Shopify admin.

How POS Can Help Grow Your Business

A POS system unlocks omnichannel growth by reaching customers wherever they prefer to shop. It offers flexible options like "buy online, pick up in-store," while unified inventory management prevents stockouts. This builds brand trust and drives repeat traffic across both your physical and digital storefronts.

How Shipturtle Helps You Succeed

Shipturtle brings your multi-vendor marketplace directly to your physical sales channels. You can easily route specific vendor products to your POS, controlling exactly what sells in-store versus online. Plus, our advanced commission engine lets you set unique vendor payouts specifically for POS transactions to perfectly balance your in-person margins.

1. Publishing Products to Sales Channels

A. Publishing Products to POS (Product Level)

By default, when you publish a product, it is automatically uploaded to your Online Store. With our new channel management feature, you can now choose to publish products specifically to your POS system. This operates at the product level, allowing you to choose the exact sales channel per product.

How to publish a specific product to POS:

  • Navigate to Products from your Shipturtle dashboard.
  • Click on the specific product you want to edit.
  • Scroll down to the Publishing (or Sales Channels) section.
  • Select the checkbox for POS (a minimum of one channel is required).
  • Click Save.

Note: You have full flexibility here. You can choose to publish a product exclusively to the Online Store, exclusively to POS, or to both channels simultaneously. Once saved, please verify on Shopify that the product has reflected on the correct channel.

B. Setting POS Channels Globally for All Products

If you know that all of your products need to be on POS, you can configure your global settings. All upcoming products created after this setup will automatically be published to the POS channel. You will still have the flexibility to override this on a per-product basis.

Step 1: Verify channels in Shopify

  • Go to your Shopify admin dashboard.
  • Navigate to SettingsSales channels and check your listed channels.

Step 2: Configure global settings in Shipturtle

  • Log in to Shipturtle and go to SettingsShop settings.
  • Click the Edit button and scroll to the bottom.
  • Find the Publishing channel dropdown.
  • Tip: If you do not see all your available channels, click the Refresh button to sync your channels from Shopify.
  • Select your global default channels and click Update.

Step 3: Creating or editing products

  • To assign a channel while creating a new item, go to ProductsAdd a product. Scroll down to Publishing, choose your desired sales channels, and click Save.
  • To edit an existing product, open the product, update the sales channel selection, and save. The changes will automatically reflect on Shopify.

Important Case: Vendor Creates a Product (Auto-Approval OFF)

When a vendor creates a product, it goes to the merchant for approval. By default, the system selects the Online Store. Because vendors do not have permission to add or modify sales channels, the merchant must update the sales channels to include POS (if desired) while reviewing and editing the product prior to approval.

2. Setting POS-Specific Commissions

In the past, vendor commissions were applied globally and did not differentiate between sales channels. Shipturtle now allows you to set different commission structures based on the channel—giving you the flexibility to have one rate for Online Store sales and a different rate for POS sales.

How to set commissions by channel:

  • Go to SettingsMultivendor settingsCommissions (or Vendor Settings).
  • Select the specific vendor or the global commission rule you wish to edit.
  • Locate the new Sales Channel breakdown within the commission settings.
  • Enter your desired commission rates separately for the Online Store and POS.
  • Click Save to apply your changes.

Important: If no channel-specific commission is configured, the system will automatically default to your standard global commission rate across all channels.

3. Important Guidelines & Best Practices

To ensure Shipturtle and Shopify remain perfectly synced, please strictly adhere to the following rules:

  • Do not modify default channels: Please do not add or remove any sales channels directly from the Shopify side, especially the Online Store and POS.
  • Inform us of new integrations: Apart from the default channels, if you add any other channels (such as Google & YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram), please inform our team. Afterward, you must sync them in Shipturtle by clicking the Refresh button located at SettingsShop SettingsEdit Shop (beside the Sales Channel dropdown).
  • Always sync new channels: Whenever you add a new sales channel in Shopify, do not forget to sync the sales channels on the Shipturtle side. You can click the Refresh icon either in Shop Settings or within the Edit Product page (next to the Sales Channel dropdown).
  • Create products in Shipturtle only: Please do not create any products directly from Shopify.
  • Manage product channels in Shipturtle only: Please do not add or remove sales channels from individual products within Shopify.
  • No Bulk Imports: Do not add products using the bulk import feature.
