Onboarding

This article is your setup checklist. Follow the steps in order — each one builds on the last. Use the links to jump to the detailed KB for each area.

Who this is for

  • Merchant: Follow this checklist after installing Shipturtle to get your marketplace to a live, operational state.

Before you begin

  • Shipturtle is installed from the Shopify App Store.
  • You are logged into your Shipturtle dashboard. See Log in to Shipturtle if you haven't done this yet.

Setup checklist

Work through these in order. Completing each section unlocks the next.

  1. Configure your marketplace website — set up vendor registration pages, vendor storefronts, and marketplace-specific UI elements in your Shopify theme.
  2. Configure marketplace settings — open Setup & Configuration in the sidebar and work through General Settings, product approval rules, commission structure, and shipping options.
  3. Vendor management — invite your first vendors, set their permissions, and test the vendor login flow.
  4. Products — have a vendor submit a test product, review the approval workflow, and confirm it appears on your Shopify storefront.
  5. Orders — place a test order and verify the order splits correctly per vendor in the dashboard.
  6. Shipping — connect your shipping carrier(s) or configure flat rates, then test a shipping label generation.
  7. Payouts — set your commission rules and confirm payouts calculate correctly against your test order.
  8. Vendor Konnect — if your vendors have their own Shopify or WooCommerce stores, set up product and inventory sync here.

FAQs

Do I have to complete every step before going live? No. The minimum to go live is: marketplace website configured, at least one vendor onboarded with at least one approved product, and a payment method active in Shopify. Shipping and payout configuration can be completed after launch as long as you have a plan for handling them manually in the interim.

How long does a typical onboarding take? Most merchants complete the checklist in one to three days. Complex setups (large catalogs, multiple vendor types, custom commission structures) can take a week.

Can Shipturtle help with onboarding if I'm migrating from another platform? Yes. See Migrate your marketplace to Shipturtle for what Shipturtle handles automatically and what requires the team's involvement.
